ISO 9001:2000 sets standard requirements for quality assurance in business processes – from design and development to production, installation and servicing. ISO, the International Organization for Standardization, was developed in 1947 "to facilitate the international coordination and unification of industrial standards". ISO thus enhances the international trading process by providing a uniform standard of excellence and by helping companies overcome "technical barriers to trade" through international standardization.
